Flaming June, 1895, Frederic Leighton (1830 - 1896)
In 1895 Leighton produced ‘Flaming June’, an oil painting that depicts a woman wearing an orange dress curled up on a chair. Her pose was loosely modelled on Michelangelo's famous statue of ‘Night’ in the Medici Tombs in Florence, which Leighton regarded as one of the main achievements of Western art.
