Victorian London Street Life in Historic Photographs

This historic volume is a classic of early photography and offers a striking glimpse into the lives of London's poor in the late 19th century. Originally published in 1877, this edition contains 37 stark photographs by famed Victorian photographer John Thomson.
Thomson's photographs captured the day to day hardship of dustmen, fruit traders, street musicians, boardmen, river workers, a shoe black, flower women and street traders. Each photograph is accompanied by a profile of the subject, written by Adolphe Smith, a journalist who later became and activist in the labour movement.
Features areas including: Covent Garden, Lambeth, Whitechapel, Clapham Common and Westminster.
